Roughly speaking, 1 dollar =117 yen, 1 euro=142 yen. Many people believe it's an exchange rate. Sure when we want to change our currency to others, we use this rate. But we don't normally change our currency.
The exchange rate in fact means how hard our life is in our respective society. To compare the relative value of our currencies, I convert the least unit of currencies like 100 cents =117 yen, 100 new euro =142 yen. Then what we realise? We buy the same pencil for 100 cents, 100 new euro, 100 yen. In other words we buy the same one for 100/117 in America, 100/142 in Europe, 100/100 in Japan.

there is also the geni index. sure, 110 yen is 100 cents, but does your typical low level japanes worker gladly take a job for 570 yen an hour? as they might in the greater majority of Us states? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._state_mi nimum_wages [wikipedia.org]not to mention all the jobs who tie their wages directly as a multiplier of the minimum wage... yeah sure, we've got walmart's everywhere and can buy a lot of things cheap, in the US... but realistically america is probabbly the only 'developed' country where you're the most likely to find yourself suffering _Below the poverty line_ (13% of americans are)so um yeah, just for the record, my last job paied the equivalent of 800 yen an hour. and was pretty good paying considering my work history, etc.

Let me see your recent JE, Uhmm.. Unexpectedly we were thinking about the similar not to say the same thing. We'd better not expect too much in our life. If we were fulfiled a daily meal and health, nothing is necessary. Our life is not for money, but money has to serve our life.

heh true enough, i'm not a big fan of money, it's never made me happy, no matter how much my parents tried to teach me that it could haha. --; well they acted like money could solve their problems anyways. don't know that they really believed it because they never really did the kind things one would to aquire loads of money.
