While I was browsing back on my past journal, I encounterred a commentator who was asking the distinction of r & l in some words,

If I noticed it before it was archived, I would be willing to reply though, now here is my reply.
Since our national language has no distinction between r sound and l sound, I often encounter difficulties as to which letter ought to be used. R sound in Japanese is neither r nor l in English, it's located somewhere between r and l, or probably it's right to say a mixture of r and l sounds. I wish I had used a sophisticated English joke as you pointed out, but in fact unless I have to be very careful about which letter should be used, I am very liable to make a wrong choice. I will make it a rule to always look it up in a dictionary. I guess it's so palpable for English speakers. I assume Spanish has no distinction either. Catamaran - ediron2, thanks.
